1. Common fraud patterns to watch for

1.1 The "half-price" quote

Genuine packers & movers have fixed costs — labour, fuel, trucks, warehouse, insurance. If one quote is 40–60% lower than every other, it is not a deal — it is a trap. The fraud operator plans to either vanish after pickup, or demand 3× the original quote after your goods are on the truck.

1.2 The fake GST invoice

Scammers print invoices with a random 15-digit "GSTIN" that does not exist on the government portal. Always verify the GSTIN at services.gst.gov.in/services/searchtp before paying.

1.3 The ransom-demand

Truck reaches the destination city and then the driver calls saying "extra charges pending, pay ₹ 45,000 or we unload your goods on the highway". If the original quote did not list these charges, this is extortion — call the police (100) and our helpline immediately.

1.4 The cloned website

Fraudsters copy the UI of a well-known brand, swap in their own phone number, and run Google ads on the brand name. Always check the URL bar matches exactly and the domain has an HTTPS padlock.

2. 12 red flags — if you see any two, walk away

If 2 or more of these apply, cancel the booking before loading starts. Your household is worth more than the advance you have paid.
  1. Quote is 40%+ lower than the market average.
  2. No written quotation — only a WhatsApp voice note or phone call.
  3. GSTIN cannot be verified on the government portal.
  4. Company asks for advance into a personal bank account or UPI ID.
  5. Address on the invoice is a residential flat or does not exist on Google Maps.
  6. The truck that arrives does not carry the company name on the body.
  7. Driver or crew cannot show a company ID card.
  8. The "manager" refuses to put the revised price in writing.
  9. They want 80%+ payment upfront, before loading.
  10. "Insurance" is promised verbally but not printed on the quotation.
  11. The company phone number does not appear when you search it on TrueCaller or Justdial.
  12. Reviews on Google show "account created last month" patterns — suspiciously identical 5-star copy.

3. How to verify a genuine packers & movers

  1. Verify the GSTIN — paste into GST portal. You should see a legal company name, address, and "Active" status.
  2. Check MCA registration — for private limited companies, look up the CIN on mca.gov.in. No CIN = not a registered company.
  3. Confirm the physical office — call and ask for the office address, then check it on Google Maps street-view. Real packers operate from warehouses, not residential flats.
  4. Read 3-year-old reviews — sort Google Reviews by "oldest first". Fake accounts only post recent reviews; real companies have a multi-year footprint.
  5. Demand a signed written quotation on company letterhead. The quotation must carry GSTIN, CIN, company registered-office address, and bank account (not personal UPI).
  6. Insist on a company truck — the truck body should be painted with the company name, phone number and GSTIN.

4. What a legitimate booking looks like

When you book with Rehousing Packers & Movers, here is exactly what you should see:

  • Written quotation PDF inside 10 minutes, with GSTIN, CIN, full company address, payment terms, item-wise break-up, and a 7-day validity.
  • Payment instructions pointing to the official company current account — never a personal savings account or personal UPI.
  • Split payment allowed: 20–30% on confirmation, 60% on loading, balance on safe delivery.
  • Crew arrives in Rehousing Packers & Movers-branded uniform with photo ID cards.
  • Truck body carries the company livery, phone number and GSTIN.
  • You sign an inventory list before pickup; driver signs it too.
  • GPS-tracked transit — a live link so you can see the truck on Google Maps.
  • Final tax invoice on delivery, matching the quotation to the rupee.

5. Warning signs during the move

Red alert during a move:
  • Foreman suddenly says the truck is "too small" and demands a bigger-truck surcharge on the spot.
  • Crew begins loading without first handing you the inventory list.
  • The phone number printed on the truck body is different from the one you booked on.
  • Company asks for the balance payment before the truck departs.
  • Foreman removes the company uniform and puts on a plain shirt after loading.
  • They refuse to share the GPS tracking link once the truck departs.

If any of these happen: stop the loading, call our helpline, and if loading has begun, film the truck plate and the crew IDs on your phone.

6. How Rehousing Packers & Movers protects you

  • Written quotations only — every booking is backed by a PDF with GSTIN, CIN and company bank account.
  • Verified crew — every foreman and helper is background-verified and carries a photo ID.
  • Signed inventory — before loading, you and the foreman sign an item-by-item list. Photos too.
  • GPS tracking — live truck location shared via WhatsApp link.
  • Basic in-transit cover up to ₹ 50,000 included. Full-value insurance available as an add-on.
  • Locked-in price — the final invoice matches your quotation. No surprise charges.
  • 48-hr grievance SLA — any dispute raised on our helpline is acknowledged within 48 hrs and resolved in 15 days.
