What "AC-cooled transport" actually means
A climate-controlled moving van maintains cargo-hold temperature at 18-25°C regardless of outside conditions. It uses:
- Insulated walls, ceiling, floor (not just an AC unit in a regular truck)
- A dedicated refrigeration circuit sized for cargo-volume heat load
- A cargo thermometer logged against a delivery temperature certificate
When it's worth the 15-25% premium
Definitely worth it:
- Electronics & servers (computers, servers, high-end audio) — capacitor & battery damage above 50°C voids warranty
- Musical instruments (pianos, guitars, violins, tablas) — wooden bodies warp; strings detune permanently
- Fine art & antiques — oil paint softens, varnish yellows above 40°C
- Wine / spirits / barrel-aged items — heat cycling degrades taste
- Pharmaceuticals & lab equipment — many require 2-25°C cold-chain compliance
- Fresh produce / food — obvious
- Long-haul 2+ day moves in April-June (any valuable load)
- Leather furniture (crackling in dry 45°C heat)
- Vinyl records, books, photographs — yellowing, warping
- High-value houseplants, bonsai
- Standard metal / plastic household items
- Everyday clothing, bedding, kitchenware
- Short-haul moves (< 200 km, < 8 hours transit)
- Most BHK moves below ₹3 lakh total goods value
- Cars & bikes (separate car transport / bike transport vehicles are open-air by design)
The math — when does it pay off?
Example: 2BHK shift Delhi → Bangalore with ₹3 lakh of electronics, art, and musical instruments.
- Regular transport: ~₹42,000
- AC-cooled transport: ~₹50,000 (+19%)
- Expected damage on non-AC in May: 2-3% of goods value = ₹6,000-9,000
- Verdict: AC pays for itself in one damaged LED TV.
- Regular transport: ~₹7,500
- AC-cooled transport: ~₹9,500
- Expected damage on non-AC: <0.5% = ₹500-1,500
- Verdict: Regular transport is fine.
How to choose at quote stage
- Ask for both quotes — AC and regular — at first contact, not later
- Share your high-value item list upfront (electronics, art, instruments, rare plants)
- Ask the surveyor to mark which items specifically benefit from AC
- Compare the AC premium to 2% of your at-risk goods value — that's a rough break-even
- For same-city short hauls, AC is almost always overkill
Typical city-level pricing

What to verify before you pay the AC premium
- See the van — insulated cargo wall (6-8 cm panel) is visible; regular vans are thin sheet metal
- Ask for a delivery temperature log — good fleets give you a timestamped print-out
- Check the cooling unit rating — should be at least 2x the cargo volume in heat capacity
- Confirm the upgrade isn't ghost-sold — ie, the operator charges for AC but uses a regular truck; a thermometer app in your cargo is proof
Unsure whether your move really needs AC? Share your inventory and we'll recommend the right tier honestly — we don't upsell AC on loads that don't need it.
