Hostel → home (end of semester, April-May)
Home → new college city (August intake, admissions-based move)

Each has its own budget logic.

1. Hostel → home (single trunk or 2-3 boxes)

Use a luggage courier (door-to-door, typical 2-5 days)
Cost: ₹1,200-4,500 depending on weight (up to 100 kg) and distance
Not worth booking a full mover for this volume
Best option: book 3-5 days before leaving campus; stack cartons in hostel room, pickup at the gate

2. Home → new college city (trunk + mattress + cycle)

Admissions happen July-August; move usually end-July for September semester
Typical volume: 1 trunk, 2-3 cartons, bedding, sometimes a cycle or study table
Cost: ₹4,000-9,000 for 500-1,200 km intercity
Shared truck works best — you pay for volume, not vehicle
Pack the day-0 bag separately (toiletries, first-night essentials, phone charger, 2 days of clothes) because the truck lands 2-3 days after you

3. Internship city → home (2-3 month return)

The trickiest scenario — you have limited time AND you're moving mid-summer peak
Cost: ₹3,500-7,000 for a typical intern's suitcase + 1 trunk
Don't post-pay — many student scams happen here; use only verified movers with online quote-in-writing

4. College city → job city (first job + life-start pack)

Volume creeps up: 4-6 cartons, possibly a second-hand scooter, kitchen basics from 4 years of bachelor life
Cost: ₹8,000-18,000 for 500-1,500 km
Consider a bike transport carrier if you have a 2-wheeler — don't ride it through 40°C long-distance yourself

Go shared — a dedicated truck is wasted for <20 CFT of goods; save 40% with shared

Common student-move scam patterns

"Free survey, pay cash on spot" — unregistered movers with no paper trail; if something breaks, zero recourse
Full advance demanded — never pay more than 10% token, balance on delivery
Verbal quote only — always get the quote in writing on letterhead / WhatsApp / email
"We'll adjust GST off the books" — they're just not paying GST; your claim reimbursement will fail if your scholarship or parent's employer is reimbursing
