- Rental cycle — 11-month leases typically renew March-June.
- Property handover — developers hand over new flats May-June to avoid monsoon delays.
Why monsoon (July-August) is cheapest — but risky
- Rates drop 10-15% across the board
- Movers have excess capacity, so you can negotiate
- BUT — road closures, waterlogging, truck breakdowns are common; transit insurance becomes mandatory, not optional
- Packing quality matters 2x more — wet cartons are a common damage source
How to time a budget-friendly move
- Shift mid-week (Tuesday-Thursday) — saves 5-8% vs. weekend.
- Book 15+ days in advance — same-day rates are 20-30% higher.
- Pick the 15th-25th of the month — first and last week are busiest.
- Flexible date window — give mover a 3-day range, they'll fit you in a shared truck and charge 15-20% less.
The cheapest-is-best trap
A 12% discount for a mid-August monsoon move isn't a win if a waterlogged truck damages ₹40,000 worth of furniture. For monsoon moves, always:
- Insist on all-risk transit insurance (not just basic)
- Get written damage-claim turnaround time (good movers commit 15 days)
- Use a covered truck, never open pickup
