Why April–June is brutal on a move
Indian cities routinely hit 42–47°C between April and June. Inside a closed non-AC truck parked on a highway rest stop, the cargo temperature climbs 8–12°C higher. At 55°C+ you start seeing:
- Glass & mirrors — thermal stress fractures, especially on double-glazed windows and tempered shower doors.
- Electronics — LCD screens, capacitors, and lithium batteries degrade. Many brands void warranty above storage limits (typically 50°C).
- Musical instruments — wooden bodies (guitars, pianos, tablas) warp permanently; drumheads lose tension.
- Candles, cosmetics, medicines — liquefy, separate, or lose efficacy.
- Houseplants — wilted or dead by day 2.
- Food items — spoilage, pest attraction.
- Paintings & artwork — oil-based pigments soften, varnish yellows.
The 7 summer-move protocols we use
- Pre-dawn loading (5–10 AM) — pack before sunrise, load before 10. Free on request — just tell the surveyor.
- AC-cooled vans for fragile loads — not all shipments need it, but any load with electronics, artwork, or musical instruments should have it. Adds 15–25% to transport cost.
- Insulated crates for heat-sensitive items — reflective liners inside regular cartons; surprisingly effective for short hauls.
- Separate houseplant crate with ventilation — shaded, moist-moss lining; survival rate jumps from 40% to 95%.
- Daytime parking in shaded loading bays — not on direct-sun highway shoulders.
- Lighter-coloured (white / cream) trucks — dark trucks absorb 30% more heat.
- GPS + thermal tracking for premium moves — temperature log signed off at delivery.
