Sabarmati and Khodiyar to Mundra and Pipavav

An LCL consignment from Satellite, Bodakdev, Thaltej, Bopal, Prahlad Nagar, Vastrapur, Maninagar, Gota, Chandkheda or Gandhinagar is consolidated at one of Ahmedabad's depots and railed to Mundra or Pipavav — typically a one- to two-day inland leg. Both ports run direct or single-transhipment services to Felixstowe/Southampton, Rotterdam and Hamburg, the US East Coast via Suez, and Jebel Ali; Australia and Singapore usually tranship. For FCL, a container can be stuffed at bungalows and many societies where a container vehicle reaches the gate. Air consignments leave from SVPI airport cargo, close to the northern and western suburbs.

Origin lead time is typically 10–14 days packing-to-on-board; Gujarat's depots are less congested than Mumbai's, which shows in predictability more than speed.

The food question, answered honestly

Every Ahmedabad survey includes it: can the pickles, khakhra, papad, masala boxes, ghee and dry snacks go? The honest answer varies by destination, and we would rather tell you now than have a carton opened at a foreign port:

• Commercially packaged, sealed, labelled dry spices and dry snacks in household quantities are usually tolerated in the USA, UK, Canada and the Gulf when declared on the inventory. Australia and New Zealand assess every food item; many are refused or destroyed.
• Home-made items — pickles in oil, ghee, sweets, chutneys, loose masala — are the ones that cause trouble: undeclared they invite inspection of the whole lot; declared they are often refused. Carry small quantities in checked baggage where the destination allows, not in the container.
• Seeds, grains, dals, fresh produce, dairy should not travel by sea to any destination.
• Cookware goes everywhere: steel utensils, kadhai, pressure cookers, tawa, the idli and dhokla stands. To the UK, Australia, Europe and the Gulf (230 V), mixers and grinders go too.

The swing, the mandir and the furniture

Gujarati homes ship two items others rarely do: the hinchko (swing) and a sizeable mandir. Both are usually solid wood or brass and worth the freight to unfurnished North American and British homes. We dismantle and crate them, photograph each piece, and — for Australia and New Zealand — inspect for bark, borer and soil and declare them as wooden items. Plant-based puja materials (dried flowers, rice, kumkum in bulk) should stay behind for those two countries.

Bungalows, tenements and SG Highway towers

• Bungalows and tenements in Satellite, Bodakdev, Thaltej, Bopal, Naranpura: FCL stuffing at the gate is usually possible; society permission is simple.
• High-rises on SG Highway, in Gota, Shela and Gandhinagar sectors: NOC, service-lift slot, crew passes; container vehicles often restricted to the gate — we shuttle to the depot.
• Summer heat (April–June): tape and cartons degrade above 40 °C in an unshaded truck; we use heavy-duty export cartons, pack in morning windows and keep loaded vehicles shaded until they move.
