Delhi's two dry ports, and why yours matters

Delhi's export containers move through ICD Tughlakabad (TKD) in South Delhi — India's largest inland container depot — or ICD Patparganj in East Delhi, with the Greater Noida and Gurugram depots as alternatives when rail slots or consolidation schedules favour them. For a household shipment this decides two things: how quickly your cartons are consolidated into a shared container (LCL), and which weekly rail service to the west-coast port they catch. A South Delhi pickup and a Mayur Vihar pickup can leave on different trains from different depots. We tell you at quote stage which depot your shipment will use and the cut-off date it must reach there — so the packing day is fixed against a train, not a guess.

Air shipments leave from IGI Airport's cargo terminal, which serves the whole NCR. A 150–300 kg air consignment — pressure cookers, winter clothes, a laptop set-up, school books — is routine alongside a sea shipment for Delhi families heading to the USA or Canada.

Packing day in Delhi: what we plan for

Truck timing. Heavy vehicles face no-entry windows on many Delhi roads. For colonies inside those zones we schedule a smaller pickup vehicle for the packing day and transfer to the container at the depot, or time the large truck for permitted hours. You are told which applies before we arrive.

Society and RWA permissions. DDA flats, CGHS societies and gated colonies in Dwarka, Rohini and East Delhi often require a move-out NOC, a gate pass for the crew and a lift booking. Our coordinator asks for the society contact at survey and handles the paperwork.

Winter air-quality restrictions. Between roughly November and February, curbs on older diesel commercial vehicles can be imposed at short notice. We keep compliant vehicles for NCR pickups and build a day of slack into winter packing schedules so a restriction does not become a missed rail cut-off.

Old Delhi and narrow lanes. For homes in Chandni Chowk, Karol Bagh's inner blocks or Lajpat Nagar's tighter lanes, the crew hand-carries to a shuttle vehicle parked at the nearest wide road. We price this at survey rather than on the day.

Diplomatic, corporate and NRI moves from Delhi

Delhi's embassy district and corporate corridor generate two move types with extra paperwork. Diplomatic relocations need mission-endorsed inventories and, at destination, exemption certificates; corporate transfers usually need GST invoices addressed to the employer and a documented handover for reimbursement. NRIs clearing a parental home in Delhi usually ship a curated set of heirlooms rather than a household — we do valued inventories item by item for these, which also serves the destination customs file and the insurance schedule.

Storage between vacating and sailing
