The Indore food question

Indore is a food city, and every survey includes a version of "can the namkeen, poha, papad and masala go?" The honest answer by destination:

• USA, Canada, UK, Gulf: sealed, commercially labelled dry snacks and spices in household quantities are usually tolerated when declared on the inventory. Home-made items — sev in loose packets, ghee, pickles, sweets — are the risk; undeclared they invite inspection of the lot, declared they are often refused. Carry small quantities in baggage instead.
• Australia and New Zealand: assume most food will be assessed and much of it refused or destroyed; ship cookware, not ingredients.
• Everywhere: seeds, grains, dals, fresh produce and dairy should not travel by sea.

Students from Indore
