International Relocation from Kochi — Kerala's Gulf Corridor, Done Properly

Kochi is where India's Gulf story is written in household moves: a nurse joining a Dammam hospital, an engineer's family finally moving to Dubai after years of visits, a retail manager to Abu Dhabi. Increasingly it is also NHS nurses to the UK, nurses and IT to Canada and Australia, and care professionals to Germany. REHOUSING PACKERS PVT LTD runs Kochi and Ernakulam moves with a Kerala crew and two assets the city has that most Indian origins do not — a container terminal on the main east–west shipping route and an airport with real international cargo capacity. This page covers what is specific to Kochi; the general process and insurance terms are on the international relocation overview, and destination customs rules are on the country pages linked below.

Vallarpadam and CIAL

• Vallarpadam ICTT — the International Container Transhipment Terminal on Vallarpadam island handles Kochi's export boxes with connections to the Gulf, Europe and the US East Coast; LCL consignments consolidate at a nearby CFS and load on the next sailing; FCL containers are stuffed at homes where access allows or at the CFS. Packing-to-on-board is typically 7–10 days. Some lanes (Australia, Singapore) tranship, and for a few destinations Chennai or Tuticorin offers a better date — we compare.
• Cochin International Airport (CIAL) — among India's stronger international cargo airports for the Gulf, which matters: a Kochi family's first-fortnight box to Dubai, Dammam, Doha or Muscat can fly from home turf rather than Chennai or Bengaluru. Long-haul air to Canada or the UK may still connect via Delhi or Mumbai; we name the airport at quote.

Where Kochi households go

• UAE — Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah; dispatch timed to your residence visa; goods wait in our Kochi warehouse until then: India to UAE
• Saudi Arabia — Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam hospitals and projects; iqama before clearance, receipts for electronics: India to Saudi Arabia
• UK — NHS nurses and doctors to London, Manchester, Leeds; ToR1 before dispatch: India to UK
• Canada — nurses and IT to Toronto, Vancouver, Winnipeg; goods-to-follow at landing: India to Canada
• Australia — Sydney, Melbourne, Perth healthcare; biosecurity-clean packing: India to Australia
• Germany — care professionals; register first, then Form 0350: India to Germany
• Also USA, Singapore, Netherlands, New Zealand

The Kerala kitchen abroad

Every Kochi survey turns to the kitchen: the puttu maker, the appam chatti, the uruli, the grinder, and then the food. The honest answers:

• Cookware goes everywhere — bronze, steel, clay chatti packed as fragile.
• Grinders and mixers go to 230 V destinations (Gulf, UK, Europe, Australia) and stay for the USA and Canada.
• Coconut oil, pickles, dried fish, banana chips, spices: sealed, commercially labelled dry spices and packaged snacks in household quantities are usually tolerated in the Gulf, UK and Canada when declared. Dried fish, home-made pickles in oil, coconut oil in bulk and fresh produce are the items that get cartons opened — carry small quantities in baggage where allowed, not in the container. Australia and New Zealand refuse most food outright.

Kochi homes, lanes and two monsoons

• Kakkanad IT-corridor apartments and Edappally/Palarivattom flats: society permission, lift slots; a mid-size vehicle shuttles to the CFS.
• Tripunithura, Fort Kochi, Mattancherry and Thrikkakara independent houses: narrow lanes and low-hanging cables are checked at survey; hand-carry to a wide road where needed.
• June–September south-west monsoon and October–November north-east rains: dry-hour windows, covered vehicles, silica gel in cartons — Kerala humidity is hard on books and textiles — and covered CFS stuffing. Waterlogged approach roads get a day of slack.

Nurses' documentation

Kochi's healthcare movers often need their household paperwork to align with employer-sponsored relocation: GST invoices in the employer's name, inventories that match the destination hospital's HR requirements, and, for the UK and Australia, ToR1 or B534 filed in the nurse's own name even when the employer pays. We set this up at survey.

Kochi ICTT / Vallarpadam corridor storage

If the house is handed over before the sailing or a Gulf visa, packed goods are held in a Kochi warehouse or at our Gurgaon facility for longer holds; rates on the charges page. Local shifting is handled by our Kochi packers and movers team.
