International Relocation from Kolkata — Longer Lanes, Carefully Planned

Heritage houses, narrow lanes, new towers

Kolkata's housing stock is unlike any other Indian city's, and it shapes the packing day:

• Old houses in North and Central Kolkata (Shyambazar, Bagbazar, Bowbazar, College Street): narrow wooden or stone stairs, no lift, lanes a mid-size vehicle cannot enter. The crew hand-carries to a wide road; heavy antique furniture is dismantled where possible and crated.
• South Kolkata flats (Ballygunge, Alipore, Bhowanipore, Jodhpur Park): older lifts with weight limits; society permission and a fixed slot.
• Salt Lake, New Town, Rajarhat high-rises: association NOC, service-lift booking, crew passes; container vehicles usually restricted to the gate, so we shuttle to the CFS.

Antiques, books and art. Kolkata shipments carry more books, paintings and inherited furniture than most. We inventory these item-by-item with photographs and values — antiques and cultural goods may need declarations at some destinations (the EU and the UK ask about cultural property), and insurers settle against the list.

Monsoon and the festival calendar

June to September brings heavy rain; we apply the same moisture protocol as any monsoon city — dry-hour windows, covered vehicles, silica gel, covered CFS stuffing. The larger scheduling factor is Durga Puja through Kali Puja and Bhai Phonta (roughly late September to early November): pandals close streets, crews take leave and port and CFS operations run thin. If you can pack before mid-September or after the festival season, do; if you cannot, we plan for it with extra slack and confirmed crew.
