Personal effects vs business goods: where customs draws the line

This is the section Surat families ask for. Every destination clears used personal and household goods under a relief regime — duty-free or tax-free when conditions are met — and clears commercial goods under normal import rules with duty, tax and often product-compliance paperwork. Mixing them is the mistake:

• Samples, stock, fabric bolts, loose stones, machinery parts in a household container are commercial goods. Declared, they are assessed separately; undeclared, they can trigger inspection and duty on the entire consignment and, in some countries, penalties.
